Author holds event at Miss Mary Bobo’s
USA Today Bestselling author Tamera Alexander held a book signing event at Miss Mary Bobo’s recently, marking the official release of her newest novel, In These Hills. The novel is set in 1905 Lynchburg, and brings to life the town in that time. The distillery, Jack Daniel himself, and Miss Mary Bobo play prominently in the story.
MUD to enact developers’ policy, availability forms
The Metro Utility Department (MUD) voted to enact a new developers’ policy and a standardized water availability form at September’s board meeting. The moves will ensure that adequate water supply and water pressure will be available for new projects. Importantly, this will be done at the beginning of the project rather than later.

Walk for Alzheimer’s braves the heat

Regardless, approximately 138 walkers lined up and began walking at 9:30 am, all for the cause of supporting Alzheimer’s research and resources. Will the third time be the charm?
The Metro Council held a special called meeting Monday night to take a second vote on the question of sales tax. The council wants to put a referendum on the November ballot to raise sales tax in Moore County from 9.50% to 9.75%. The raise amounts to 25 cents on a $100 purchase With John Taylor and Houston Lindsey absent, the vote was taken. The measure passed 12-1 with Sunny Rae Moorehead voting against. The council then voted on the language for the ballot, which passed as well.
Is this bridge really safe?
There has been a lot of discussion lately about the bridge at the Retreat at Whiskey Creek, specifically regarding its safety. The short answer to the question is “No.” In addition to the questionable assessment of the bridge and the ensuing fallout, the bridge is showing signs of wear and tear. There is damage to some of the bridge deck boards, with some of those boards being split and broken. This is without the kind of traffic load that would be expected from the completed development. It seems that that kind of damage at this point would be a cause for concern.
