Motlow plays for district title

Motlow State women’s soccer will host Monroe Community College in the district championship Saturday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m. Central Time at the Motlow State soccer field on the Moore County campus.

The Bucks earned the opportunity to host after capturing the TCCAA/NJCAA Region 7 championship with a 2–1 victory at Columbia State on Oct. 31.

Motlow enters the district championship with a 16–5–2 overall record and seven consecutive wins. The Bucks have scored 82 goals across 23 games this season. Their regional tournament run included a 3–0 quarterfinal victory over Southwest Tennessee and a 3–1 semifinal win over Pellissippi State before defeating Columbia State for the title.

“I’m incredibly proud of this entire squad and what they’ve achieved,” said head soccer coach Andy Lyon. “To come through two huge games in the space of just a few days, showing such incredible spirit, resilience and gritty determination, says everything about the character of this group.”

Lyon credited the team’s performance on both ends of the field in securing the championship.

“We took our chances when it mattered and defended superbly, showing the quality and commitment needed to win a championship,” he said. “This season has certainly had its ups and downs, but the players have continued to work hard, believe in one another and push forward.”

Motlow State Athletic Director Ross Fanning encouraged the community to attend Saturday’s matchup.

“This team’s resilience and determination have been outstanding,” Fanning said. “We’re proud of our players, Coach Lyon and Coach Reid, and we’re excited to host the district championship. We encourage our Motlow community to come out Saturday and cheer on the Bucks.”
