Dolly Parton has been in the news a lot lately, and she appears to have overcome some health concerns. 2026 is a milestone year for Dolly, marking her 80th birthday, the 60th anniversary of her marriage to the late Carl Dean, the 40th anniversary of Dollywood, and the 30th anniversary of her Imagination Library. There is no better time to send a love letter to “our Dolly.”

Retreat at Whiskey Creek again seeks approval for Phase 2

Chip Hayes, developer of Retreat at Whiskey Creek, appeared at the April Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Commission meeting, along with attorney Madison Haynes. At issue is the commission’s approval for Phase 2 of the retreat’s development. A preliminary plan was submitted to the commission in July 2025, and was tabled at the August meeting. It was decided by the Metro Council the infrastructure for Phase 1 had to be 70% complete before approval of Phase 2 would be addressed. According to Hayes, it is approximately 50% complete. Chair Dexter Golden said that issues could be discussed, but there would be no vote on the plan.

Done Deal: Principal takes new job

Moore County is looking for a new high school principal after Josh Deal announced he is leaving at the end of the school year to take the Supervisor of Support Services job at the central school office.

Safe at Home protects against abusers

With April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Secretary of State Tre Hargett reminds Tennesseans of the ‘Safe at Home’ program, a life-saving program offered through his office. The ‘Safe at Home’ Address Confidentiality Program and ‘Tennessee Businesses Against Trafficking’ continue to provide resources throughout the year to protect victims of sexual assault.

Volunteer Week set for April 19-26

United Way of South Central Tennessee is hosting a week-long initiative called Volunteer Week, presented by Volunteer Bank, on Sunday, April 19th through Saturday, April 25th. This event takes place alongside National Volunteer Week and celebrates the connection and impact that volunteers bring to our local community.
