Exposing the Jezebel Spirit

Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.” Revelation 2:20-23. If you are serving the Lord, sowing into your community and on a path of Kingdom anointing then there is no doubt in my mind you have encountered the Jezebel spirit. I encourage you to read 1 Kings 19:1-8 to understand what it looked like for Elijah as he himself came face to face with Jezebel – a power-hungry queen who would stop at nothing to gain control and influence. First, I want to give you some characteristics that you can look for when discerning this specific spirit in your own walk.

●Lack of Repentance – the Jezebel spirit is far too prideful to admit when he or she is wrongoften blaming others when confronted.

●Control – the main characteristic of this spirit is simple, control. This control is often gained through intimidation, fear and manipulation.

●Oppose Authority – the Jezebel spirit does not seek godly wisdom and will shut down any form of Biblical correction / counsel. This spirit causes divisiveness through their actions and words, promotes self-promotion and will never point others to Jesus in fear of losing “power”.

●Sexual Immorality – this spirit is very seductress in their actions and words often conceding their own worth to fulfi ll the greater purpose of gaining attention.

●Deception – this particular spirit paints themselves as noble, virtuous and as if they are working for the greater good when in reality, they have completely fooled those around them.

In 1 Kings 19:2 you will read that Jezebel sent a message to Elijah threating to take his life within 24 hours causing him to flee to the wilderness in fear. Elijah was so terrifi ed of what Jezebel could do to him that he prayed God that just let him die to escape her wrath. As Elijah was praying, he had not yet realized that her threat of a “day’s journey” had already come and gone. Her threat was all but words sent to cause fear through intimidation – the number one tactic of the Jezebel spirit. If Elijah had the opportunity to respond to Queen Jezebel again, I would imagine he would have responded through prayer, fasting, authority and truth. After reading these basic characteristics, you may now recognize this spirit in your own life.

I just want to encourage you to stay steadfast in your commitment to Biblical principles noting that we do not fight against flesh and blood but against the darkness that resides. It is time to get in your prayer closet and allow God to handle those who the enemy is using to bring about a Jezebel spirit in your corner of the world. You have the authority through Christ to not tolerate this influence in your own heart and to not cower at the tactics being used to try and trick others into relinquishing their own faith, values and morals through lies and manipulation. Stay focused, rise up, stay alert and stay fed so that when you do come head on with a Jezebel spirit, you are filled with the wisdom and knowledge to expose the enemy and help those in your family and community do the same!

“And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.” 1 Kings 19:7.
