Table Talk

Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified.” Isaiah 43:26. I ask you to think about a courtroom today – who and what do you see when you look around? Frist and foremost, you see a judge, jury, the defense attorney, the prosecutor, witnesses and of course the accused. There have been times in my life, and I am sure yours, that settling a dispute in the carnal courtroom seemed like an easier route. In this season of trials God began to whisper to me to “take it to His court”- the accusations, the lies of the enemy, the battles and struggles. It has taken me years to truly understand what it means to remain still and plead my case to the ultimate Judge.

It is important to remember that the Heavenly Courtroom is a system of justice where God serves as Judge against any warfare you may face. Satan is always at work holding us captive to past sins, accusing us of falling short and continuously trying to steal our faith. As a believer in Christ, you don’t have to walk into that courtroom alone, you have Jesus as an advocate and defense attorney who pleads your case to the Father. Think about that? You don’t have to prove your worth to others, you don’t have to make others understand your side, you don’t have to pray the jury sees your heart – Jesus Christ stands in the gap and acts as a righteous covering over all the lies the enemy has stirred against you. That beautiful truth alone should cause your heart to beat with joy and the chains to begin to break.

You may be wondering how we as believers can have access to petition the courts of Heaven, a request that seems incredibly sacred. I don’t have all the answers to this process, but I can give you insight as to how God has instructed me.

1. Prayer – to enter into the holy space of God’s courtroom you must have faith. The faith is displayed through your relationship with our Father and the prayer line you have nurtured and matured. Reciting the Lord’s Prayer as laid out in Mathew 6:9-13 is where I start.

2. Gratitude – Our Father is gracious and the fact that we as Christians have the authority to call upon Him for justice against our accuser is a gift that none of us should take for granted.

3. Respond – This is the time where you repent and renounce anything you came into agreement with through sin and start speaking the blood of Jesus which is the atonement for the lies the enemy has kept you captive to.

4. Request – Once you have presented the case that you are battling (spiritually or naturally) you can humbly request that God’s will for your life become your new reality. This is always the hardest part for me because our Father owes us nothing, yet we still have the opportunity to bring to His feet the darkness that keeps us bound. Take your time…

5. Declare – It is time to declare that satan no longer has legal right to your mind, your family, your marriage, your workspace, your community – his rule is over and revoked. End in a confident prayer thanking the Lord for His infi nite wisdom in all situations and receive fully the verdict that will be sent forth.

This earthly realm seems a little less daunting knowing we have a Judge and Defense Attorney who are eager to take our case!

“And shall not God avenge His own elect, which cry day and night unto Him, though He bear long with them?” Luke 18:7.
