Rockets fizzle against Raiderettes

The Westwood Lady Rockets fizzled against the Moore County Middle School Raiderettes as the girls from Lynchburg brought home a 13-5 victory. It was the Raiderettes’ win from the get-go as Moore County went up 11-1 after three with the Rockets making their only real noise in the fourth with a four-run bottom of the fourth. Moore County got most of it back in the top of the fifth was two runs.

Moore County outhit their hosts 10-to-5 and were cleaner in the field with only two errors opposed to eight miscues by their hosts.

Haven Hornaday had a huge outing for the Raiderettes as she went 4-for-4 with the bat, scoring four runs and knocking in two. She was the only Raiderette with multiple hits. Lily Smith was 1-for-4 at the dish but was responsible for two RBI and a run scored. Smith also had a triple as did Hornaday and Rylee Logan.

Smith worked the circle the entire five innings, fanning five Rockets on 85 pitches.

The Raiderettes then took their second win in a row with a 9-2 victory over Liberty. The Raiderettes outhit their guests 5-to-4 with Emmy Thomas going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. Haven Hornaday was 2-for-4 with a run. Madison Hatfield was 1-for-2 with the stick, scoring three runs as she was also walked twice in the game. Penelope Rose made a living out of being walked as she was given three free passes to first and scored two runs. Emmy Thomas also had a double while Madison Hatfield hit a triple bagger. Lily Parks worked all seven in the circle, striking out seven on 87 pitches.

Cannon County was able to exact some revenge against the Middle School Raiderettes for their loss earlier in the season, beating them Monday night in Woodbury 5-4. The loss came despite Moore County outhitting their hosts 9-to-3 on the evening. Madison Hatfield as 2-for-4, scoring a run while Olivia Jacobs was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
