Thompson wins 17th annual Oak Barrel

Christian Thompson of Ooltewah broke the tape first at the 17th annual Oak Barrel Half Marathon Saturday morning, finishing ahead of over 1,700 other runners that flooded the streets in and around Lynchburg.
Thompson finished with a time of 1:17:26, a full two minutes ahead of his runner-up, Carson Miller of Madison, Ala., who crossed the line at 1:19:36. Lauren Coile broke the tape first in the women’s division, stopping the clock at 1:30:12. She was 14th overall and was just over a minute ahead of the second woman on the course, Rachel Mason of Signal Mountain who finished at 1:30:12.
Garrett Jennings was the hometown hero of the event as he was the first Lynchburg entrant to break the tape at a time of 2:00:26. Fellow local Mason Henshaw was about six minutes behind him with a time of 2:06:14.
AEDC Commander Grant (Missile) Mizell of Tullahoma finished 34th with a time of 1:35:38.
The final totals showed there were 1,774 entries with 1,254 of those finishing the race. The average time of the finishers was 2:34:44.
