Raiders win streak snapped in pitcher’s duel

The Moore County High School Raiders had their impressive three-game win streak snapped this past week as they lost a pitcher’s duel to Shelbyville and then were handed a second-consecutive loss by Coffee County.
Hits were at a minimum for both Moore County and Shelbyville as the Golden Eagles got the home win, 1-0. Kohlby Williams got the only hit for the Raiders as the teams were deadlocked in a scoreless tie until Shelbyville broke through with a single run in the bottom of the sixth. Moore County was unable to answer in the top of the seventh. Shelbyville didn’t set the world on fire with their bats either as they only managed four hits in the win.
Cole Taylor went on six innings on the mound for the Raiders, striking out four and walking just one on 92 pitches.
Coffee County used a big second inning to get the 7-2 win over Moore County in the next game. The Coffee County Red Raiders brought home four runs in the top half of the second and led the rest of the way. Williams had another strong day at the plate as he was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double. Rylan Stovall was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The trio of Crew Costello, Carter Zerhusen and Jose Garcia combined on the mound with Costello working the first five innings. The trio combined to fan eight Red Raiders.
The Raider righted the ship in their next game as they made it a sweep over Grundy County this season, defeating the Yellow Jackets 11-1.
Grundy County led for one inning after scoring the first run of the game. It would prove to be their only time crossing the plate. Moore knotted it with a run in the second and added two in the fourth. The Raiders finished the job in the top of the eighth as they plated eight runs. The Raiders outhit their opponent 13-to-3 during the outing. Jace Deal had three RBI on a 3-for-3 performance at the dish while Cole Taylor, Rylan Stovall and Luke Stephens all had two hits apiece. Stephens also scored three runs while Kohlby Williams knocked in two. Cole Taylor did all seven innings on the bump, fanning seven while giving just two free passes during his 111 pitches.
