Middle School Raiderettes get walk off win

The Moore County Middle School Raiderettes opened their season with a 6-5 win over Cannon County on a walk-off error by the Lady Lions.

Jeorgia Douglas scored the winning run without ever swinging a bat in the bottom of the seventh as the teams were deadlocked at five runs apiece. Douglas was on base as a courtesy runner after Lily Smith opened the final inning with a single. Douglas then took second and advanced to third when Baylee Thomas hit a slapper to shortstop. She then won the game when she took home after an error by the Cannon County third baseman.

While winning in walk off fashion, the Raiderettes dominated the girls from Woodbury at the plate as they outhit their guests 10-to-3. The Raiderettes took a 2-0 lead in the home half of the second and held it until Cannon plated three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. However, Moore County got the advantage back in the home half of the fifth with two runs and then added another run in the bottom of the sixth.

Lily Smith and Baylee Thomas both went twofor- four at the dish while Rylee Logan was a perfect two-for-two with the bat. Smith led her team with two RBI as she also had a triple. Smith also worked the whole way from the circle, throwing 126 pitches in seven innings. She fanned 15 Lady Lions while walking just two.

The middle school girls kept it going the next game with a 13-3 win over Fayetteville City. They plated six runs in the bottom of the third to take a commanding 7-0 lead and then added three in the fourth and three in the sixth to cement the win. They outhit the Lady Tigers 12-to-3 and were cleaner in the field as Fayetteville made three errors to just one by the Raiderettes. Lexi Cash, Haven Hornaday, Lily Smith and Olivia Jacobs all had a pair of hits for Moore County with Hornaday, Jacobs along with Baylee Thomas and Madison Hatfield all with two RBI apiece. Cash had a triple while Hornaday and Hatfield both slugged doubles.

Lily Smith worked the whole five inning game from the circle, fanning 10 on 81 pitches. She allowed no free passes via walks.
