Middle School Raiders win district

The Moore County Middle School Raiders have won their second district title with a 15-0 blanking of Forrest after taking it on the chin from the Rockets in their last game 10-4.

While smarting over their 15-game winning streak being snapped by Forrest in the 10-4 loss, the Raiders came out with the district title on the line and got immediate revenge. The Rockets got only three hits in the contest while the Raiders turned the base paths into a merry-go-round, getting 13 hits during the contest. The Raiders went up for good in the second with four runs and then followed that up with two in the third and then a whopping eight in the fourth.

Shutting down the Rocket bats was Laken Wade who pitched all seven innings for Moore County fanning seven on 77 pitches. Caseon Casteel tore it up with the bat as he was 3-for-5 with a run and three RBI while Brantly Chapin was 2-for-4 with two runs and two runs batted in. William Thompson had two RBI and two runs while Grayson Hill was 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Scout Murray went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Austin Scherff scored two runs and Sully Townes had a run and an RBI. Casteel had a pair of doubles while Thompson also hit a double bagger. Thompson snatched three bases while Scherff, Casteel and Harrison Norman all stole bases.

The Raiders began their march to the title by beating the Rockets in game one of the threegame series. The Moore County Middle School Raiders announced their arrival in the postseason loud and clear with a 20-5 drubbing of Forrest in the first round of the district tournament in Liberty.

An eight-run third inning put the game out of hand and an 11-run sixth inning closed out the contest. The Raiders outhit Forrest 11-to-8 and forced nine fielding errors by the Rockets. Caseon Castell was big man on campus as he collected three hits on five trips to the plate, parlaying them into four runs and four RBI. He also hit a homerun. Sully Townes was right with him as he was 2-for-4 at the dish with three runs and two RBI. William Thompson, while 1-for-5 with the stick was very productive, scoring three runs and knocking in two. Brantly Chapin had two RBI and two runs. Scout Murray was 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI while Laken Wade was 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run. Beau Switzer also stepped up with two runs and an RBI. Wade, Townes and Casteel all hit double baggers in the contest. Casteel also swiped two bases and Thompson one.

A trio of pitchers worked the mound for the postseason win. Clay Moses started the first three, fanning three. Sawyer Boyce worked middle relief, fanning one and Laken Wade closed the deal, fanning one.

They were next scheduled to begin region play Thursday night.
