Varsity on losing streak, JV on winning streak

The Moore County High School baseball varsity team has taken it on the chin in four straight games after beating Grundy County 11-1 a couple of weeks ago. However, in the meantime, the junior varsity is tearing up the diamond as they have dropped only one contest all season and are currently on a three game winning streak.

The bad luck for the varsity team began with a home and away sweep by Huntland as the Hornets were victorious 4-1 and 9-7. The Raiders were then defeated by Mt. Pleasant 7-2 before losing to the Hampshire Hawks 10-3. Meanwhile the junior varsity were busy defeating Grundy County 5-3, Warren County 6-5 and Huntland 4-3. Their only loss was a 7-3 loss to Coffee County on March 19.

In their most recent win, the junior varsity won a low scoring contest over Huntland where both teams had only four hits. Cody Burton had half of the total as he was 2-for-2 with a run and two RBI. Nick Smith and Caden Clark had the other two hits. Clark also had two RBI. Lucas Preston and Joseph Graham combined on the hill to fan nine Hornets.

In the win prior, the Raiders outhit the Warren County Pioneer junior varsity four to two and exploded for six runs in the top of the second. Preston, Clark, Kohlby Williams and Clayton Weatherspoon all had hits while Williams accounted for two RBI. Caden Clark and Deacon Liles combined on the mound to fan three Pioneers.

The win streak started with a 5-3 no-hit win over Grundy County. Nick Smith and Joseph Graham combined on the mound for the no-hitter although they did walk four. Jace Deal was big man on campus in the win as he was 2-for-2 with three RBI. Jose Garcia was 2-for-2 at the dish with two runs.
