Raider season ends against top ranked team

T he season came to an end for the Moore County Raiders as they were sent home by the number-one ranked 1A team in the state as Eagleville beat them in the first round of the regional tournament 75-32.
The Eagles were on top of the Raiders quickly as they went up 19-5 after one and never looked back. Colton Morey, who has led the Raiders in scoring much of the year, put up all five of the Raiders’ first quarter points. The second quarter saw Eagleville double their lead as they outscored Moore County 20-10. Anderson Sharpe who had an exceptional transition to the high school level this year, drained a pair of threes in the second on his way to leading his squad with 11 on the night. Deacon Liles had a bucket while Morey had a pair of free throws.
The Raiders were only able to muster eight in the third with Sharpe hitting a two and a three while Braylynn Hill notched a field goal. Morey was one for two from the line.
Avery Rogers got on the board the final frame as he drained a three and then hit a hoop while Tucker Smith and Cody Burton both had field goals to round out the 2025-26 campaign.
The Raiders got put in the position of having to face the numberone team in the state by being upside in the final round of the district tournament by a team they had owned during the regular season – Fayetteville City.
Fayetteville defeats Moore County in overtime
Both teams shot the lights out this past week in the consolation round of the district playoffs with Fayetteville beating Moore County in overtime 8475, sending the Raiders to the fourth seed in the regional tournament.
It was the first district win of the season for Fayetteville as they had just one win for their program all year until the offensive explosion against Moore County. Meanwhile, for the Raiders, Colton Morey had his best showing of the season, leading all scorers with 32 on the night with four 3-poitners. Anderson Sharpe was on fire as he put up 24 points which also included four 3-pointers.
However, the game came down to a free throw shooting competition in the overtime period which the teams entered knotted at 60. Morey was the leading scorer in the extra period as he had a three and a two and went twofor- five from the line. Anderson Sharpe also drained a three and was two-for-two from the stripe. Cooper Dickey also ripped a three during overtime on his way to an 11-point showing.
While Moore County scored 15 during the overtime period, Fayetteville found themselves at the line on numerous occasions, getting 20 shots from the charity stripe, hitting 15 of the attempts. They were led by Jayden Thomas who had 29 on the night and Billy Brown with 22.
The Raiders led for most of the game as they were up 32-26 at the half and were caught after Fayetteville had a 24-point fourth quarter to force overtime.
