Moore County competes at Special Olympics
Moore County will be amongst the teams competing at the Special Olympics Monday at Tullahoma High School. Athletes are encouraged to arrive by 9:15 a.m., or earlier if possible, to prepare for the opening festivities. The day’s schedule will begin with check-in at 8:15 a.m., followed by athletes lining up on the track between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. for the Parade of Athletes, which will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m.
Arrests
The following individuals were arrested or being held in Metro Moore County April 16 - 24, 2026 Thomas Lynn Jr. Fayetteville. Charge with probation violation. Court 4.24.26 Jessie Erving Thompson, Antioch. Charged with failure to appear. Bond $2,500 Court 5.19.26 Paul Mason Riddle, Estill Springs. Charged with failure to appear. Bond $10,000. Court 4.21.26 Joshua Ray Trussell, Lyncyhburg. Charged with aggravated burglary, three counts of domestic assault, interference with emergency calls, two counts of vandalism and child abuse/neglect (violent). Bond $25,000.
DAR presents gift to Moore County Public Library
The Moore County Public Library was gifted recently with a copy of The American Revolution, an Intimate History, by Ken Burns and Geoffrey C. Ward, along with a DVD of the PBS series based on that book.
Soap Box Derby returns May 2
The excitement is building as the TUA Soap Box Derby prepares to return to West Lincoln Street in Tullahoma on May 2 bringing with it a day of youth competition, community spirit, and familyfriendly fun.
Sewanee professor meets Pope Leo
Last month, Sewanee Professor of History, former Peruvian Ambassador to the Republic of Ireland, and Guggenheim Fellow Carmen McEvoy met Pope Leo XIV during a special audience at the Vatican.
School Board eyes upcoming budget
April’s School Board meeting opened with 9th grade student Cale Rose making a statement to the board. Miss Rose, very active in 4-H, wished to thank the board for their continued support of 4-H and FFA activities, especially the field trips the groups take. Some trips are educational in nature, and some are for competitions. The board’s approval is required for these trips, which often result in the students’ absence from some classes. Miss Rose was 2025’s Grand Champion for the 4-H Chick Chain.
MUD still plagued with water losses
The main topic of discussion at April’s Metro Utility Department meeting was the continued water loss problem. With all but a handful of the new Kamstrup meters in place it was hoped that meters would pick up on leaks and low flow contributing to the persistent water loss that the older meters were unable to capture.
