Moore County beats Santa Fe in regionals

T he Raiderettes punched their ticket to try second-ranked Richland for a third time Monday night with a 5033 win over Santa Fe in the first round of the girls’ regional tournament.
The win set them up with a rematch with highly ranked Richland Monday. Richland won both meetings with Moore County, defeating them 52-47 and 57-43. The game was scheduled to be held in Eagleville.
Neither team was burning it up in the first quarter as the Raiderettes outscored their foes 7-5. Abbie Bateman registered three of those points with a long-range bomb while Bella Tucker hit a field goal. Ally Sharpe was twofor- two from the stripe and led her team with 17 points on the night.
Things got much worse for Santa Fe as they were shutout in the second while Moore County put up a baker’s dozen. Emmeree Greenway was on fire as she hit a trifecta of field goals before busting the bucket with a three. Sharpe stayed steady, putting in a couple of hoops.
The Raiderettes ran Santa Fe out of the building in the third as they put up 20 points. Sharpe had her biggest quarter as she sizzled the cylinder for a trio of threes along with a field goal. Abbie Bateman finished her eight-point night with a pair of baskets and a free throw while Bella Tucker had a two and a pair of free throws.
The Raiderettes finished off the game with Paisley Kelly hitting a trio of baskets while Bella Tucker and Alexus Hornaday both had hoops.
The Santa Fe game was set up by a Raiderette win in the third-place game of the district tournament the week before over Fayetteville City.
Raiderettes top Fayetteville in district tourney
The Raiderettes secured third place in the district tournament and a date to take on Santa Fe Friday in the regionals by topping Fayetteville 5641 to secure a three-game sweep of their district rivals.
Ellie Carter led the way in the win, posting a baker’s dozen while Ally Sharpe put up 11 points on a night where the girls from Lynchburg had hot hands from beyond the arc, sinking a total of seven 3-pointers.
The Raiderettes went up 19-11 after one with Ally Sharpe started the three-parade with a triple along with a pair of field goals. Bella Tucker posted six the old fashioned want by draining a pair of field goals and a pair of free throws. Ellie Carter and Emma Dye both swished threes to complete the first.
Fayetteville was able to cut into the Moore County lead by one as they outscored the Raiderettes 14-13 in the second. Emma Dye drained a three and hit a two while Abbie Bateman and Ellie Carter both tingled the twine from long range and Paisley Kelly notched a two to give Moore County a 32-25 halftime lead.
The Fayetteville offense couldn’t get off the bench in the third as they only put up five points while the Raiderettes scored 11. Ellie Carter had a big third as she scored from all facets, hitting a three, a two and two free throws. Bella Tucker and Paisley Kelly both contributed field goals.
Moore County spent most of the fourth quarter at the foul line as they converted on nine-of-11 opportunities from the charity stripe. Sharpe scored the only field goals as she struck twice from the field. Meanwhile Brooke Ledbetter had all three of her night’s points from the foul line in the fourth. Addison Brandon, Abbie Bateman, Emmeree Greenway and Maddie Goodwin all hit ops from the free throw line to seal the deal.
The win was the Raiderettes’ third over Fayetteville as they beat them in the regular season 6745 and 63-40. Fayetteville was 1-7 in district. Their opponent Friday was 9-15 on the season and lost to the Raiderettes 76-17 earlier in the season.
