Moore gets upper hand on Upperman

The Moore County High School Raiders notched their first win of the young season with a 5-1 win over Upperman and followed that up with a 4-3 win over Sequatchie County and 5-1 over Grundy.
The win comes behind the arm of Colton Morey who fanned 10 Bees while only walking one in his seven innings of work on the hill in which he hurled 91 pitches, 60 of those for strikes. His ability from the hill was key as hits were at a premium with Moore County outhitting Upperman 5-to-2.
Moore County grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first, going up 1-0 but the Bees tied them at the top of the third when they plated a single run. The Raiders finished off the affair with four in the bottom of the sixth.
There were no Raiders with multiple hits; however, Kohlby Williams was able to score two RBI. Jax Ross was 1-for-2 at the dish and had a double.
The Raiders had to hold on to notch their victory over the boys from Dunlap as they led 4-0 after two before the Indians plated two runs in the top of third. Sequatchie managed just one more run, that coming in the home half of the seventh inning.
Moore outhit Sequatchie 6-to-4 but also out-errored the Indians, committing four miscues in the field as compared to one by their hosts.
Colton Morey came up huge at the plate as he was 3-for-3 at the dish, scoring two runs. Jax Ross went 1-for-3 but accounted for a run and two RBI. Jose Garcia played shutdown defense on the hill as he struck out four and walked three in six innings of work during which he threw 96 pitches.
The Raiders followed the Sequatchie win up with a 5-1 win over Grundy County. The Raiders led the whole way, scoring two in the first and two in the fourth, surrendering the single Yellow Jacket run in the bottom of the fourth. Moore County outhit their hosts 9-to-4.
