Raiders light up Rockets

The Moore County Raider Middle School baseball team has started the season with home and away splits against Westwood and Cascade while taking a close loss to Lewisburg.

Grayson Hill had a huge game in the 18-8 Moore County win over Westwood as he was three for four at the plate and was responsible for five RBI. William Thompson had the only other multiple hit outing against the Rockets as he was twofor- two at the plate and was responsible for a pair of RBI. He also scored four runs while Austin Scherff and Laken Wade both plated three runs.

The Raiders outhit Westwood just eight to six but benefited from six fielding errors by the Rockets.

A trio of Raiders shared the mound during the contest. Scherff went two and two-thirds and fanned three, walked three and was held responsible for five runs while allowing three hits. Cayden Mullins pitched an inning and struck out two, walked four, allowed two hits and was accountable for two runs. Sawyer Boyce pitched the last one and a third and struck out two and walked one.

The Raider win came following a 13-4 loss to the Rockets in Manchester.

In their next game, the Raiders tried to mount a late comeback but still fell 9-5 to Lewisburg Middle. The Raiders were down 6-0 going into the fifth when the Moore County bats came to life, helping them plate three runs. However, Lewisburg answered in the bottom of the sixth with two of their open to seal the win despite the Raiders outhitting them eight-to-six.

Their streak of bad luck continued in the home and away series with the Cascade Champions as the Raiders took it on the chin 13-1 at home with Scout Murray getting the lone Raider hit. However, it took only a day to get revenge as the Raiders traveled to Cascade and won 7-3.

The Raiders won despite being outhit 9-2 and led the entire game, taking a 1-0 lead after one and increasing their advantage to 3-0 after three. Cascade was able to plate two runs in the bottom of the fourth by Moore County slammed the door shut with four runs in the top of the sixth. Brantly Chapin and Sawyer Boyce were the only Raiders with hits while William Thompson led the way with two RBI.

The Raiders benefited from four errors by their hosts and nine walks allowed by their pitching staff as Moore County overcame 13 of their batters being fanned in the contest.

Clay Moses struck out four Champions during his four innings on the hill while Sawyer Boyce fanned four himself.
