Done Deal: Principal takes new job

Moore County is looking for a new high school principal after Josh Deal announced he is leaving at the end of the school year to take the Supervisor of Support Services job at the central school office.

The announcement comes after the long-time Support Services administrator Wendy Hart announced her retirement at the end of the school year.

“Congratulations and best wishes to Mrs. Wendy Hart on her retirement,” said Director of School Chad Moorehead. “We celebrate her many years of service and dedication to Moore County Schools and thank her for the positive impact she has made in our community. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement, Mrs. Hart” Meanwhile, Moorehead commended Deal on his work at the helm of Moore County High and he believes that has prepared him well to take Hart’s place.

“Mr. Josh Deal has accepted the role of Supervisor of Support Services for our school district and will transition from high school principal to the district offi ce on July 1. Congratulations, Mr. Deal,” Moorehead said. “Mr. Deal’s work as a principal in our district has given him familiarity with many responsibilities managed by the Supervisor of Support Services. He would be well suited for that role.

Deal said it was not an easy decision to leave administration at the high school after nearly two decades there.

“Although this new job is a great opportunity for me to grow professionally, it was not an easy decision to make,” Deal said of taking the new position. “I am finishing up my 18th year at the high school, the last 5 years being in administration, and that has been a very rewarding time. I have created many lasting friendships, and hopefully had some positive effects on students along the way. We have some of the best teachers and students around, and they made it very hard to leave. I hope I can continue to serve our teachers and students in my new role at the central office. I would like to thank Mr. Moorehead for the opportunity to move forward in my career and for the guidance and mentorship he has shown me during my time at the high school. I will have a lot to learn in my new role, but I am looking forward to the challenge.”

The school system is now actively looking for a new high school principal to begin in the 2026-27 school year.

“We look forward to attracting a strong pool of candidates for the MCHS principal position,” Moorehead said.
