A Moore County woman was arrested Friday, April 19, after being indicted on charges of theft of money from the Moore County Youth Football League and the Lynchburg Little League.

Sandra Holdmeyer, 34, of Old Fayetteville Highway, Lynchburg, who had been handling money for both leagues, was named last week in a two-count indictment by the Moore County Grand Jury for the alleged theft of between $1,000 and $10,000.

According to a report by Moore County investigator Mike Rainey, the alleged thefts came to light after the presidents of the Moore County Youth Football League and the Lynchburg Little League discovered the money missing from their respective organization’s checking accounts.

The report states that Matthew Scruggs, the football league president, went to the Moore County Bank to add his name to the account. When he learned there was $2,545.18 in the account, he stated he was under the impression there should have been $9,994 in it.

According to the indictment, Scruggs then began an effort to determine what happened to the funds and discovered that checks had been written to people to whom the league should not have owed money, especially during the off-season.

The indictment alleged that the money was taken between April 2012 and January 2013.

According to Rainey’s report, Scruggs had the bank pull records from September 2012 to present day.

He then asked Holdmeyer about the account and said she provided him with some bank records, but not copies of checks that he questioned.

Meanwhile, Joe Hill, president of the Lynchburg Little League, made a report to Rainey that money was missing from that organization as well. According to Rainey’s report, the account was supposed to have a balance of $4,200 but instead showed a balance of $758.60.

The indictments allege that the thefts of the money occurred between March 2012 and March 2013.

Holdmeyer was booked into the Moore County Jail and posted a $5,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in Moore County Circuit Court June 21.
