Wilson drives to $3,000 WinterFest win at Winchester Speedway

WINCHESTER — Chris Wilson, of Crossville, earned $3,000 Saturday at Winchester Speedway’s WinterFest, winning just his sixth career Super Late Model start.

Wilson inherited the lead after a tangle between leader Chad Winkles, of Falkville, Ala., and Riley Hickman of Ooltewah. The Mississippi native Eric Cooley over the final 10 circuits at the historic quarter-mile oval located just off the town square.

The eighth-starting Cooley finished second while David Brannon, of Elora, improved three positions to finish third. Middle Tennessee standout David Gentry, of Murfreesboro, and 12th-starting Eric Hickerson of Linden, rounded out the top five.

Polesitter Lamar Scoggins of Cleveland, Tenn., led early in the race, but mechanical problems forced him out and he became the second retiree in the 24-car field. Winkles inherited the lead from Scoggins.

Jimmy Elliott won the feature for Limited Late Models in front of polesitter Daniel Miller and Randy Gifford. Kenny Kizzar and David Jackson completed the top five.

The 11th annual event drew more than 140 competitors from throughout the Southeast.
