A Tullahoma man drowned Tuesday afternoon while on a fishing outing on Tims Ford Lake.
According to Doug Markham of the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency, the body of Richard Moffat, 57, of Hillcrest Drive, Tullahoma was pulled out of the water near the Lost Creek Boat Ramp by another boater.
According to Markham, the boater, who was not identified, attempted CPR but was unable to revive Moffat. The boater then called 911 and emergency personnel from Moore County responded to the lake along with a TWRA Officer Mark McNeese and Moore County Sheriff Mark Logan. The body was transported to Harton Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
According to the TWRA, Moffat fell out of the boat and got tangled up in a propeller.
The wildlife officer stated that Moffat, who was an avid fisherman, had apparently been fishing with his day’s catch in a cooler. According to Markham, Moffat appeared to have been headed to the boat ramp.
The body was sent to the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Markham noted that the results of the autopsy will not be available for several weeks.
Funeral services will be held at Tullahoma Funeral Home.
