LYNCHBURG, Tenn. — Moore County High School principal Buddy Smith was honored recently with an Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Patriot Award. The Patriot Award honors Employers and Supervisors who allow guard members to spend time in military training and deployments while still maintaining their civilian jobs.
The Moore County Board of Education and Smith have been extremely supportive of all Moore School Board employees who are current active Guard or Reserve members.
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve is a Department of Defense Agency.
The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support Citizen Warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed.
Smith was nominated by Tennessee Army National Guard 1st Lt. Brad Sanders, who recently returned from nearly a year of active duty deployment to Afghanistan. During his deployment, the faculty at Moore County High School reserved Sanders’ parking place as they anticipated his return.
The ESGR Patriot Award was presented to Smith by retired Army Colonel and ESGR Volunteer John U. Basinger at the high school on March 3.
