Moore County took advantage of a couple of errors and scored a run in the first inning and another in the third inning and then held on to beat Middle Tennessee Christian 2-1 Monday afternoon at the Jim Burton Field.
The Raiders are trying to pull even with the District 9-A-leading Cougars, who entered Monday’s game with a two-game lead in the conference standings.
Moore County managed just two hits, but the Raiders got a solid effort from senior Ben Harvey on the mound.
Harvey went the distance, pitching all seven innings while striking out five and walking just one. While he and the MCHS defense managed to hold Middle Tennessee Christian at bay throughout, the Cougars made it interesting in the seventh when Harvey issued a walk to the put the tying running on board with two outs.
Harvey battled back, however, fanning the next batter to end the threat and collect the win.
