The Raiders kick off the new season at home on Aug. 17 against Wayne County. The Wildcats finished strong in Region 6A with a 27-14 state playoff finals win over South Pittsburgh. The AP ranked the reigning Class A state champions fifth in the pre-season prep poll.
On Aug. 24, the Raiders hit the road for back-to-back away games against Cornersville and then a district match-up against Eagleville. The Eagleville game will be played on Thursday, Aug. 30.
In week three and four, the Raiders play at Raider Stadium – taking on East Robertson on Sept. 7 followed by a district game against MTCS on Sept. 14. The MTCS game will also be homecoming.
On Sept. 21, the Raiders head to McMinnville for a fierce match up with 6-AAA Warren County.
MCHS will finish up the season with four back-to-back district games. They play at home against rivals Huntland (Sept. 28) and Cascade (Oct. 5) before enjoying an open date on Oct. 12. They travel to Community on Oct. 19 and finish the regular season at Forrest on Oct. 26.
All varsity games are played at 7 p.m.
Head Coach Scott Smith says the Raiders have seven seniors this year with four players returning on offense and four returning on defense.
“We’re a very young team but an extremely hard-working group of kids. One of the hardest working I’ve ever seen,” he said.
Coach Smith says players are currently working on strength and conditioning and won’t practice in full pads until the first week of August.
