Thursday night’s 60-34 District 9A Championship win over MTCS was full of moments for the MCHS Raiderettes and their fans.
Just before tip off, the host school graciously offered a prayer of support to the MCHS student body, who lost a classmate this week in a tragic car crash.
The words of support for Joe Strasler and his family clearly touched the Raiderettes.
At tip off, the “She Hulks” got down to business. Only four players scored points for the Raiderettes but each swished double digits.
Rachel Garland led with 20. Sarah Raby scored 15. Erica Limbaugh contributed 13 and Erin Thomas scored12.
Sarah Raby earned All District 9A Regular Season Team honors and Rachel Garland was named the All District 9A Regular Season MVP.
Kelsey Camp, Erin Thomas and Sarah Raby earned All District 9A Tournament Team honors and Rachel Garland was named the tournaments’ MVP.
The Raiderettes earned the right to host the first round of the Region 5A Tournament at MCHS. That game will take place next Friday against the fourth seed from District 10A. Tip off is TBD.
In an interesting footnote, Rachel Garland scored her 1,999 career point in the championship game. This means there’s a better than average chance that she’ll swish point 2,000 in front of a home crowd next Friday.
