SOUTH PITTSBURG — For the second straight game, Moore County senior Sarah Raby poured in 31 points, helping the Raiderettes to their 14th-consecutive victory as Moore County beat Sequatchie County 49-32 in the final game of the South Pittsburg Christmas Tournament on Saturday night.
The win marked the eighth for the Raiderettes during this Christmas break and the second tournament championship the team has won as 2012 winds down.
Moore County (15-3) topped Grundy County 44-30 on Wednesday afternoon to open up tournament play at South Pittsburg High School. A 63-43 win over Marion County followed on Thursday.
The Raiderettes then outlasted North Sand Mountain (Ala.) in double overtime on Friday night to claim a 66-60 victory and move into the tournament finals. Raby scored 31 points against North Sand Mountain — the No. 1 ranked Class 2A team in Alabama — as well.
On Saturday, it wasn’t as difficult. The Raiderettes turned a 23-14 halftime lead into a runaway by the end of the third quarter. Sequatchie County had trouble guarding Raby in the post and the Raiderettes took advantage, repeatedly feeding the ball inside for easy buckets.
Moore County is off until Jan. 4, when the Raiderettes travel to Eagleville for a District 9-A contest.
