The Raiderette softball team opened their season last Thursday with a 9-0 win over visiting Eagleville. With stellar defense, aggressive bats and sharp pitching, they jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back.
As a team, the Raiderettes had nine hits, led by Sierra Bateman who went 4-4. She drove in two runs and scored three runs. Kate Bowles and Savanna Stevens also drove in two runs each. Pitcher Kasey Harvey went the distance on the mound, giving up two hits, no walks, and striking out five in seven innings.
The Raiderettes have a young starting line-up this season but getting time in the outfield Thursday were senior Brittany Lowe, freshmen Kyleigh Camp and Katie Price and eighth grader Emily Powell.
The infield consisted of sophomore Bateman at third, eighth grader Stevens at shortstop, juniors Kelsey Camp at second and Sarah Raby at first, and eighth graders Bowles catching and Harvey pitching.
Rounding out the roster this season are Rachel Garland, Jessica May, Emily Henshaw, Faith Few, Abby Grogan, Makayla Ray, Mahalia Moore and Caylann Bryan. Coaching the Raiderettes this season is Jeremy Austin. •
