Shortly after opening up the Lynchburg Veterinary Hospital, veterinarians Wendy and Bryant Morton welcomed their first permanent resident. A male cat, known to many Moore County News readers as Nikki the News Cat, needed a home.
With a soft spot for strays already — the Mortons had nearly 30 “house cats” at their practice in Elizabethtown, N.C. — Wendy and Bryant took in the pudgy, long-haired — and constantly shedding — Nikki.
“We needed a clinic cat anyway,” said Wendy.
Though Nikki can be a bit territorial, and in typical cat fashion, a little particular, the Mortons said that he has gotten used to his new home.
“Every now and then he will come down and socialize,” said Bryant, “but if you raise the shade in the office upstairs and the sun’s coming in, that’s where he’ll be.”
The Mortons said anyone who used to stop by The News’ office to see the cat is more than welcome to drop by their practice on Majors Blvd. to see Nikki and catch up.
