Sessions, Neva Carol, 42, of Devine, Texas, passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2015. She was survived by her parents Don and Gayle Sessions; her brother James ‘Jim’ Sessions; uncles Jerry Tipps, Jimmy Tipps and wife Pam; first cousins Jon Sessions and wife Marcy, Jason Tipps and wife Carla, Daniel Tipps and wife Kristina, and Jordan Tipps.  Neva was also survived by five second cousins. Neva was born in Jourdanton, Texas on Sept. 8, 1972.  She served as a lifetime resident of Devine, Texas and graduated as valedictorian of the Devine High School class of 1991. Upon graduation from high school, Neva attended the University of Houston where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mathematics graduating with honors in 1995. Starting in the fall of 1996 Neva went to work teaching Calculus and other upper level math classes at Pleasanton High School in Pleasanton, Texas. She served the Pleasanton ISD for three years before returning to her home town of Devine to continue teaching. Over the next 16 years, Neva taught Calculus, Pre-Cal and other high level math classes at Devine High School as well as many other life lessons that were not taught in a textbook or through a curriculum. Neva served as lead class sponsor, Math Department chairperson and National Honor Society sponsor. She served on numerous committees and was active in multiple roles with the athletic department serving as scorekeeper at many games. She supported all aspects of Devine High School including band, FFA, drama, FCCLA and many other student organizations. Recently Neva had earned her Masters of Science Degree in Educational Leadership from Texas A&M University in Kingsville. She was passionate about her called profession of teaching and truly cared for all students whether in her classroom or not. She was known for her warm personality, bright smile and huge hugs. Her ability to motivate students to be the best that they could be every day was her legacy at Devine High School. eva was a member of First Baptist Church in Devine, Texas. Visitation will be held at the Hurley Funeral Home in Devine, on Wednesday, Jan. 21 from 2-9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 4-8 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22 in the First Baptist Church of Devine with interment immediately following in the Evergreen Cemetery. Those wishing to honor her memory with a memorial, the family has requested that they may be made to the NEVA CAROL SESSIONS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND in care of Hurley Funeral Home, 303 W.
