Lynchburg retailer Diamond Gusset Jeans will be at full speed this weekend when the NASCAR Nationwide Series kicks off its season in Daytona, Fla.

Diamond Gusset Jeans, which has a retail store on the Main Street on the Lynchburg square, will sponsor Nationwide Series driver Willie Allen this weekend as all eyes turn toward Daytona International Speedway and the World Center of Racing.

Allen, a 33-year-old journeyman driver who made his NASCAR debut in 2006, was named the 2007 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Rookie of the year in 2007. He has solid NASCAR experience competing in both the truck series and the Nationwide series.

With backing from Diamond Gusset Jeans, he will suit up for Martins Motorsports this weekend and attempt to qualify for Saturday’s Nationwide Series Drive4COPD 300.

“Diamond Gusset is a proud sponsor of Willie Allen and the Martin Motorsports team. Willie is a talented driver and we have high hopes for him at Daytona,” said David Hall, President of Diamond Gusset Jeans. “We are also excited to introduce our 100 percent American Made Jean brand to NASCAR nation.”

The pairing of Diamond Gusset Jeans, Willie Allen and Martins Motorsports is a natural fit, as Allen is from Bon Aqua, Tenn., which is also the headquarters for Diamond Gusset.

NASCAR Nationwide Series Coors Light Pole qualifying is scheduled for Friday at noon and will be aired on ESPN2. Saturday’s race is set for a 12:15 p.m. start and will be shown live on ESPN.

After his success in the truck series and limited success in the Nationwide series, Allen is eager for another shot at NASCAR’s elite level.

“This is what you work for,” said Allen. “It’s what I love to do and it’s my passion.”

Allen and the Martins Motorsports team plans to run the full Nationwide Series schedule this year. They’re excited to get the season kicked off this weekend.

“Our team is going to have a chance to debut on a national stage,” said Allen’s teammate, Tommy Joe Martins. “A race at Daytona as a new team is a great equalizer.”
