The Motlow Bucks continued their march through the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) conference with a 98-72 thumping of Dyersburg State Saturday afternoon at Copperweld Arena in the final home game of the regular season.
Motlow (20-3, 15-1) will close out the regular season with a trip to Columbia State on Wednesday night and Jackson State on Saturday. The TCCAA/Region VII Tournament begins March 5 at Copperweld Arena, with Motlow as the host school.
The Bucks were never seriously challenged by the visiting Eagles, who shot only 32 percent from the field despite connecting on 12 3-pointers. Motlow shot 50 percent from the field and hit 9-of-23 3-point attempts. The Bucks won the rebounding battle 38-29.
Chris Hawkins made 12-of-13 of his field goal attempts and led the Bucks with 29 points, along with eight rebounds. His 12 baskets ties him for sixth on the school’s all-time single game record list. Demarco Stepter holds the record, hitting 17 two-point buckets in January of 2008.
Perrin Buford scored 18 points and led the team with 11 rebounds, while adding seven assists. Sean Gardner scored 12 points, with five rebounds, five assists and two steals; Michael Tomlin scored 12 points and pulled down five rebounds; and D.J. Jones had 11 points and six assists.
Marty Wilkerson led Dyersburg State (5-15, 1-11) with 23 points.
