Last season we managed to win the Duck River Valley Conference (DRVC) championship for the first time in school history. We finished with a 14-3 record in DRVC play, which included a 6-1 record in the DRVC tournament where we met up with Cascade and beat them twice for the championship. Last year was also the first time in school history that 6th graders were allowed to participate in Middle School athletics (school sponsored athletics). The team consisted of six 6th graders, eight 7th graders, and six 8th graders for a total of 20 players on the 2016 MCMS Softball team. We prepared for our DRVC tournament by participating in 3 inseason tournaments (Ardmore AL, Elkmont AL, and Greenbrier TN), where we finished 3rd in the Elkmont tourney. The main focus of participating in the tournaments was to find bigger schools to compete against. We picked up a signature win in our nonconference schedule against Lincoln Co on April 2nd by the score of 14-7. 2017 Preview: We lost six 8th graders who greatly contributed to our 2016 success and are looking to find leadership, experience, teamwork, and a good work ethic in the two returning classes from the 2016 DRVC Championship team. We are returning a good amount of kids who saw valuable time from last season. We are returning roughly 30-40% of the innings pitched from last year in Chloe Brazier and Deliah Stewart as well as two catchers who caught the bulk of the innings in Madelynn McLaughlin and Lauren Malone. We are also returning around 45% of our hits last season with those being divided amongst those listed above along with Jordan Lund, Maddie Carter, Kaleigh Hill, Rayel Pierce. Overall we are expecting good things this season from our returning players along with the newcomers of Lela McNatt, Audrey Sanders, Kendall Dangerfield, Ava Womble, Ruby Jimenez, Breanna Burks, Jadryen Renfro, Riley Groce, Raby McNatt, and Caroline Hammond. Our main focus for this season is the same as last season, build as much success as possible leading up to the DRVC tournament and hopefully win our conference tournament again. We will prepare for this challenge by taking on four in-season tournaments (Ardmore AL, Columbia TN, Elkmont AL, and Lynchburg TN), the last of which we will be hosting at the Lynchburg Park.
