CHAPEL HILL — Moore County suffered its first loss of the season Friday night, dropping a 23-0 decision to the Forrest Rockets.
At Chapel Hill, the Raiders struggled offensively to move the ball against the host Rockets. Forrest owned both sides of the line of scrimmage and took advantage of a bevy of mental mistakes by Moore County.
After putting together a 62-yard opening drive that stalled inside the Forrest 10-yard line, the MCHS offense was stymied the rest of the night.
The loss cost the Raiders their No. 1 state ranking and will force the team to regroup as Wayne County visits Raider Stadium on Friday night and Fayetteville City comes to Lynchburg on Sept. 20.
The loss also snapped Moore County’s 14-game regular season win streak. The last time the Raiders lost in the regular season was Oct. 7, 2011 at Cascade.
