The Raiderettes traveled to Cross Plains Tuesday night to take on the East Robertson Indians in the first round of the Region 5A Tournament.
With help from a three-run home run blast by Sierra Bateman Moore County got to an early lead and never looked back. They won 7-1 and advance to the TSSAA Sectional Game, which takes place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night. They play Forrest at Forrest.
Win or lose the Raiderettes have at least one more game in the 2012 season. If they win Wednesday, they’ll host either Summertown or Collinwood on Friday. If they lose, they’ll travel to play.
On Tuesday, six runs in the first three innings allowed MC to coast to the win. In addition to Bateman’s home run, Kyleigh Camp, Kelsey Camp, Emily Powell and Mariah Ward all got hits in the game. On the mound, Kasey Harvey snagged the win through seven innings – allowing no earned runs, five hits and one walk while striking out four.
Last Wednesday, Moore County got out muscled by Forrest 8-0 and had to settle for the number two spot in District 9A.
They beat Cascade 4-3 with help by a ground out single by Sarah Raby to score Lindsay Eslick in the fifth to earn a trip into the District 9A Championship game.
Last Tuesday, the Raiderettes bats exploded to a 13-4 win over Eagleville. Moore County put together seven runs in the first three innings to secure the win. Harvey pitched a quality game – allowing only four runs over seven innings. She struck out seven, walked one and gave up nine hits.
