The Moore County Middle School Raiders didn’t get a victory in the team’s season-opener last Thursday night against Westwood Middle School. But if moral victories count for anything at all, well, chalk one up.
In Manchester, the host Rockets survived to claim a 12-8 win over Moore County. Meanwhile, though the Raiders left Manchester with a loss, they also left with a little bit of confidence, knowing they pushed one of the league’s top teams the distance of an entire four quarters.
“We played as good a game as I’ve ever seen,” said head coach Mike Walker. “We played four complete quarters of Raider football. We shut down what they wanted to do and we took away two big plays. You couldn’t ask for better performance.”
Walker said the team’s performance was much better than in the preseason.
Stone Frost scored the Raiders lone touchdown and Trystan Whitaker added the two-point conversion.
Moore County Middle is scheduled to host Cascade this week. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Raider Stadium.
“(Cascade) is a very good team as always,” said Walker. “If we play the way I know we can play, we will be fine.”
