The young Raiders open their season this week, with a home game Thursday, Aug. 6 against visiting Westwood. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. here in Lynchburg.
Moore County participated in a jamboree at Cascade on Friday. The Raiders faced Liberty and finished on the losing end, falling by a lone touchdown.
Still, it was an optimistic start of a team that has but 22 players on the roster, including 15 seventh-graders moving up to compete at the middle school level for the first time.
Eric Hunt takes over the head coaching duties from long-time coach Mike Walker, who resigned his teaching post as well as his coaching and athletic director positions earlier in the summer. Hunt will be assisted by Johnnie Frost and Bobby Blawusch.
After this week’s game against Westwood, Moore County will play the second of its eight-game schedule on Aug. 13 at Cascade.
The Raiders return home for an Aug. 20 contest against Eagleville and then close out the month of August with a game at Liberty on Aug. 27.
Following an open date the first week of September, MCMS will be back in action on Sept. 10 at Fayetteville. That’s the first of back-to-back road games as they’ll play at Middle Tennessee Christian School on Sept. 14.
Moore County will close out the regular season with a pair of home games, beginning with Forrest on Sept. 24 and finally Community on Oct. 1.
