MCMS Basketball Begins Season With Back-To-Back Wins

Middle School Basketball kicked off this past week with two home victories and one road win for the Moore County boys’ and girls’ teams. The MCMS girls opened the season with two lopsided victories over Liberty and Eagleville and a narrow win over Huntland. The Raiderettes shot the ball well hitting five 3 pointers and used a swarming defense to overwhelm Liberty 57-16. Erica Clifton led all scorers with 21 points and Breanna Burks had 13. In their second game of the week, the Raiderettes defeated Eagleville 42-19. The Raiderettes defense held Eagleville to just 6 points in the first half while their offense sank 4 three pointers in the first quarter. Erica Clifton had 15 points, Rayel Pierce and Olivia Richards had 6 points each, and Macey Fletcher had 5 points for the Raiderettes. The road win against Huntland was more difficult as the Raiderettes found the rims to be unkind. Despite the difÞ cult night shooting, the Raiderettes won the game 35-33. Olivia Richards led the team with 9 points, Madison Floyd had 7, and Erica Clifton and Paisley Logan had 5 each. The MCMS Boys team jumped out to a commanding 32-13 halftime lead against Liberty and held on to win 48-43. The MCMS Raiders shot the ball well in the first half while limiting Liberty’s opportunity to score. Liberty returned after halftime with new energy almost overcoming the large halftime deficit. The Raiders were led in scoring by Will Harder who had 17 points, Myllion Love had 8 points, and Colton Bateman had 7. Eagleville took an early lead on the MCMS Raiders 7-0 before their defensive pressure and aggressive rebounding allowed them to lead at halftime 19-13. By the end of the 3rd quarter, Eagleville had closed the margin to 26-24. The confident Raiders surged ahead in the 4th quarter by hitting 9 of 13 foul shots to preserve the victory. Will Harder led the Raiders in scoring with 15 followed by Colton Bateman with 12 and Tristain Blanton with 6. The Raiders came out firing on all cylinders against Huntland and went on to defeat the Hornets 39-23. Will Harder led the Raiders with 22 points. Colton Bateman had 8 and Tristain Blanton had 5.
