The MCHS tennis teams continued their strong start in the program’s debut season, despite dropping their first district match of the year. The boys took a tough 6-1 loss and the girls dropped a 7-0 match to Summertown on Tuesday, March 27. On March 26, the girls took a loss to Columbia 6-1. Those losses didn’t diminish a super start to the program’s inaugural season, though. The Raiders boys beat Lewis County 4-3 and the girls also won 4-3 on March 20. For the boys, Giancarlo Cella and Nate Love won their singles matches and Cella and Garrett Jennings teamed for one doubles win and Love and Ethan Holt teamed for a crucial won at No. 2 doubles. For the girls, Faith Cauble, Taylor Holcomb and Kinsley Logan posted singles wins and Chrissy Lockhart and Hailee Trott teamed at No. 1 doubles for one win and Logan/ Holcomb took another. The girls beat Collinwood 5-2 to stay undefeated in district play. Cauble, Holcomb, Logan and Katie Thomas had singles wins and Holcomb/Logan picked up a doubles win. The boys and girls swept Lewis County again. The boys won 5-2 as Cella, Jennings and Love picked up singles wins and Cella/Jennings and Holt/Love collected doubles wins. The girls won 4-3 as Holcomb and Logan got singles wins and Thomas won by disqualification. Holcomb/Logan picked up a doubles win. The tennis team is off until April 10 when they travel to Franklin County.
