The Moore County boys and girls basketball teams participated in holiday basketball tournaments last weekend and represented themselves well as they head into district play Friday, Jan. 4.
The Raiderettes battled all the way to the championship game of the Friendship Christian Christmas Tournament, losing a 60-24 decision to Trousdale County. The Raiders played in the Hall’s Sgt. York Southeastern Christmas Invitational in Jamestown and impressed with two wins after dropping the opener to host York Institute. The Raiders captured fifth place in the tourney.
Kynleigh Fanning and Olivia Richards were named all-tournament for the Raiderettes (4-11).
For the Raiders (3-12), Brayden Cashion and Andrew Copeland were named to the all-tournament team. Garrett Jennings was awarded the scholarship award. Riley Holman won the tournament’s 3-point shooting contest.
The Raiderettes and Raiders now head into district play, which begins Friday, Jan. 4, when Moore County visits Fayetteville City. The girls play at 6 and the boys game follows. Saturday, both teams travel to Middle Tennessee Christian School for an afternoon doubleheader. The girls tip at 3 and the boys game follows. Tuesday, Moore County gets back into district play when Cascade visits.
