Nearly three dozen veterans and guests were at Moore County High School on Tuesday as the school honored them with a Veteran’s Day Assembly.

Guest speaker Tom Price a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force (1954-58) spoke to the Moore County High School and Middle School student body, giving a description of the accounts of the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II. The five-week battle was one of the bloodiest during the War in the Pacific.

After Price spoke, MCHS students put on a skit narrated by Emily Powell remembering those soldiers who raised the flag at Iwo Jima and the many who were lost in the battle. Music was provided by the MCHS band, directed by Jason Gospaderek, who is a veteran, along with MCHS staff members Buddy Smith, Brad Sanders, Missy Smedley and Edward Henderson.
