LYNCHBURG, Tenn. — As expected, Moore County High School will hold its 2015 graduation ceremonies at Motlow College. During Monday night’s Moore County Board of Education meeting, Director of Schools Chad Moorehead confirmed to the board that the graduation ceremonies would be on the Motlow Campus.
Graduation is typically held at MCHS at the football stadium. When the stadium was condemned last fall, school officials first decided to hold graduation ceremonies in the school’s gymnasium. The gymnasium has been used in the past on short notice due to inclement weather, the most recent time in 2013.
But with ample notice, school officials pursued the suggestion that graduation be moved to Motlow’s Copperweld Arena this year in order to accommodate more people in a more comfortable environment. With no scheduling conflicts on the May 22 graduation date, Motlow College officials agreed to let MCHS use their gymnasium.
As late as last month’s school board meeting, Moorehead said there was an outside chance that the MCHS graduation could still take place at Moore County High School’s football field. But while the refurbishing of the stadium is moving along nicely, it will still be ongoing next week and wouldn’t be ready in time for graduation.
Ceremonies are scheduled to begin on Friday, May 22 at 6:30 p.m.
As for the stadium, Moorehead told the school board on Monday night that it should be ready well ahead of the first high school football game in August.
