Raiders vs. Huntland: The Moore County Raiders won their second consecutive District game Monday night (1/15) at Huntland 49-36. The first half of the game wasn’t pretty as neither team shot the ball or played well offensively. The low scoring half ended with Huntland ahead 19-18. In the second half, the Raiders opened with a higher level of intensity on defense creating turnovers and shutting down the Hornets. Slowly the Raiders began to pull away from Huntland opening a 37-30 lead with 3:49 remaining in the game. Senior Nate Love hit two foul shots, intercepted a pass, and then hit a layup to put the Raiders up 41-32. Dylan Scruggs hit two key foul shots with 37 seconds and Pacey Warren hit a layup to seal the win. Andrew Copeland led the Raiders in scoring with 16 points hitting four 3-pointers. Nate Love had 15 points followed by Pacey Warren with 6, Clay Burnett had 4, Evan McKenzie, Dylan Scruggs, Garrett Jennings, and Kylan Knight had 2 points each. Coach Hardin commented after the game that he was proud of his team’s effort and that different players were stepping up every night. The win improved the Raiders to 2 and 1 in the District.

Raiders vs. Cascade: The Raiders won their first district regular season game Tuesday night (1/9) defeating Cascade 50-45. The Raiders opened the game quickly going ahead 8-0 but went cold from the field only shooting 21% in the first half. The Raiders shot 17 3-pointers in the first half only hitting two. Their defense played tough holding the Champions to only 4 points in the first quarter. The Raiders went to the locker room at halftime ahead 19-18. After the half, Cascade went ahead 21- 19 before Clay Burnett hit a three to put the Raiders up 22-21. But the Raiders were unable to extend the lead and finished the 3rd quarter tied at 30. Brayden Cashion hit a 3 to start the 4th quarter followed by another 3 by Cayden Smith. With 5:33 remaining in the game, Garret Jennings, rebounded a 3-point miss and put the Raiders up 40-35. Pacey Warren and Jennings hit back to back baskets followed by a Burnett 3 pointer to put the Raiders up 47-38 with 1:35 remaining. Cascade hit back-to-back 3-pointers and reduced the lead to 48-46 with 8.8 seconds remaining. The Champions fouled Andrew Copeland who sank the first free throw but missed the second. Nate Love secured the rebound and put the game away with two free throws to end the game. Lots of players made positive contributions to give the Raiders their first regular season victory in two years. Pacey Warren, Nate Love, and Garret Jennings handled the boards against a taller, physical Cascade team. Warren had 8 rebounds for the game with 2 offensive boards. Freshman Brayden Cashion played significant minutes and scored 7 points. Clay Burnett led the Raiders with 16 points, Garrett Jennings and Nate Love had 8 each, Cashion had 7, Warren 5, Cayden Smith 3, Evan McKenzie had 2, and Andrew Copeland had 1 point.

Raiderettes vs. Huntland: The Moore County Raiderettes won their third straight district game at Huntland 54- 44. The Raiderettes jumped out to an eight point lead before Huntland took a time out. Huntland came back to tie the score at 17 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Raiderette defense began to create turnovers and allowed them to run out to a 30-24 lead at halftime. Kinsley Logan had 15 points in the first half and Kursten Hawkins had 9 as they attacked the Hornet defense. Defensively, Taylor Holcomb contained Huntland’s leading scorer Caylee McLennan to just 7 points in the first half. After halftime, the Raiderettes battled to maintain their lead but were never able to pull away from the Hornets until early in the fourth quarter. With 5:02 remaining in the 4th, the Raiderettes took a commanding 15 point lead 51-36 on consecutive 3-pointers from Katie Thomas and Kinsley Logan. From there, the Raiderettes slowed the pace down and held on to win. Kinsley Logan led the Raiderettes in scoring with 23, Kursten Hawkins had 14, Katie Thomas had 9, Chrissy Lockhart had 4, Faith Cauble and Taylor Holcomb had 2 each.

Raiderettes vs. Cascade: The Raiderettes won in convincing fashion Tuesday night (1/9) defeating Cascade 88-30. The Raiderettes quickly took control of the game going up 24-10 at the end of the first quarter and 52-16 at halftime. Defensively, the Raiderettes press forced Cascade into frequent turnovers and prevented the Champions from getting into any type of rhythm. When Cascade did get the ball inside Chrissy Lockhart was there to block or alter their shot. The Raiderettes were especially effective offensively hitting 15 3-pointers in the game and putting up 88 points. Before they were substituted out mid-way through the 3rd quarter, Seniors Kinsley Logan hit five 3-pointers, Kursten Hawkins hit seven baskets in the lane plus two 3-pointers, Katie Thomas hit three 3-pointers, and Taylor Holcomb hit two shots in the lane plus a 3-pointer. Kinsley Logan led the Raiderettes in scoring with 23 followed closely by Hawkins with 20. Katie Thomas had 12, Taylor Holcomb and Chrissy Lockhart had 7 each, Kynleigh Fanning and Kelli Ray had 5 each, Regan Corder had 4, Anna Smith 3, Hailee Trott had 2. Moore County Raiders and Raiderettes will travel to Eagleville Friday night (1/19) for another important district contest. Friday game (1/12) against Cornersville was cancelled due to inclement weather. The make-up date is tentatively scheduled for January 24th.
