MCHS Basketball Teams Weekly Update

Raiderettes: The MCHS Raiderettes defeated Community Friday night at the Viqueens gym 62-51 to improve their record to 7-0. The Raiderettes jumped out to a big first quarter lead 19-8 as Kinsley Logan continued her e x c e l l e n t shooting. A n n a S m i t h came off the bench to give the Raide r e t t e s a boost scoring 5 points in the first quarter. The Viqueens picked up their defensive pressure in the second quarter making scoring more difficult. They also began to score offensively and reduced the Raiderettes lead to 28-24 at the half. When the Raiderettes returned to the floor, Kursten Hawkins started the third quarter with a good basket but quickly picked up her third foul and went to the bench. With the Raiderettes needing a basket, Kinsley Logan drove the lane and scored on two consecutive times down the floor and followed by a three pointer to keep the Raiders up by 5 with 1:44 remaining in the 3rd. But the Raiderettes picked up their 10th foul for the half with 1:30 remaining in the quarter, giving the Viqueens an advantage which they used to take the lead at the end of the 3rd quarter. Down 43-42 going into the fourth quarter, the Raiderette seniors took control of the game with Katie Thomas and Taylor Holcomb scoring key baskets to turn back the Viqueens momentum. Thomas and Holcomb both had 6 points in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory for the Raiderettes. Kinsley Logan led the Raiderettes in scoring with 22 points followed by 11 from Katie Thomas. Chrissy Lockhart had a good night in her return to the lineup scoring 9 points. Taylor Holcomb had 8. The Raiderettes will play in a Christmas Tournament Gatlinburg before the holiday. They will face Creek Wood on Friday December 22nd.

Raiders: Community avenged their loss to the Raiders on their home court Friday night 73-47. The Raiders were playing without their leading scorer Julius Dixon who has left the team to relocate to another school. In the first quarter, the Raiders offense appeared to be clicking on all cylinders as they put up 20 points on the Vikings. Garrett Jennings was active on the boards forcing the Vikings into some early foul trouble. Clay Burnett hit a 3 to tie the score at 7 before the Vikings jumped out to a 13-7 lead with 3 minutes left in the quarter. The Raiders battled back with a three from Andrew Copeland and a two pointer from Blake Woosley. Dylan Knight hit a two pointer just before the end of the quarter to keep the Raiders within 2 points 22-20. The Raiders struggled offensively in the second quarter only putting up 3 points while the Vikings continued to score primarily from outside. At the half, the Raiders were down 37-23. The Raiders continued to fall further behind in the third as they continued to struggle to score. The team continued to battle and bounced back in the fourth increasing their defensive intensity and putting up 21 points. Clay Burnett led the Raiders with 13 points followed by Garrett Jennings with 9. Blake Woosley and Andrew Copeland had 6 each. The Raiders travel to Gatlinburg to participate in the Smokey Mountain Classic tournament this week. Their first game is against Pigeon Forge Thursday Dec 21 at 8:30pm.
