The Multi-County Cancer Support Network (MCCSN) recently received a $10,000 check from an anonymous benefactor. State Representative David Alexander presented the check on behalf of the benefactor to representatives of the MCCSN last Thursday.
The MCCSN is a non-profit organization which assists cancer patients and their families both financially and emotionally in Moore, Bedford, Coffee, Franklin, Grundy, Lincoln, Marion and Warren counties in middle Tennessee.
Rep. Alexander explained the circumstances that led up to this anonymous gift.
“As a State Representative in Nashville, I have been given the opportunity to meet and talk with many new people. One afternoon, in one of these conversations, I made someone aware of the Multi-County Cancer Support Network and the cancer patients it helps.”
Rep. Alexander and his wife, Cile and their company, Reliable Rental, have been supporters of MCCSN since 1997 and therefore, he was able to go into detail about what this dedicated organization does.
“Our conversation ended and we went our separate ways,” said Rep. Alexander. “A few weeks later, I was shocked and left speechless when this anonymous benefactor handed me a $10,000 check for the Multi-County Cancer Support Network and told me that their foundation prefers no publicity for itself in connection with this gift. It’s one of those unforgettable moments. That’s a whole lot of pennies from Heaven … ”
MCCSN Board Member Helen Stewart commented, “This is the true spirit of giving!”
How donations to the Multi-County Cancer Support Network enable the organization to help cancer patients throughout eight counties is reflected in the statistics below:
From July 2010 to June 2011, the total number of cancer patients helped was 741. The total amount expended was $113,419.82. The office also makes available wheelchairs, walkers, wigs and other items not covered by insurance. If you know of someone in need of these services, please call the office at (800) 497-4322.
