Simmons, Mary Ruth, 71, passed from this life early Sunday morning, June 2, 2013 at her residence after an extended illness. Funeral services for Mrs. Simmons, of Shelbyville, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Bro. Scotty Sorrells officiating. Burial followed in the Booneville Cemetery in Lincoln County. Visitation was held Monday, June 3 at the funeral home. A life-long resident of Bedford County, Mrs. Simmons was the daughter of the late Jim and Annie Smith Nichols and was preceded in death by brothers Bill and Earl Nichols. Mary Ruth retired from National Pen Corp. in Shelbyville after 32 years of service. She was a member of Whiteside United Methodist Church and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Bill Simmons; son Charlie (Tammy) Crosslin; daughter Judi (Frank) Cartwright; two grandchildren, Jake and Jacey Beth Cartwright; and brother Frank (Alice) Nichols, all of Shelbyville.
