Cates, Mary Louise Ruch, 77, of Winchester, passed away Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She was born May 28, 1938 to the late Charles Ruch and Stella Fraley Ruch. Following her graduation from Franklin County High School, Mrs. Cates was a secretary at the Franklin County Agricultural  Extension Office. On Aug. 1, 1970 she and her husband, Dillon, opened Broadview Grocery which they owned and operated until January 2011. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and an active member of the Broadview Community.  Survivors include her husband, Dillon Cates of Winchester; daughters, Carol (David) Whitehead of Belvidere and Amy (Jeff) Mason of Lynchburg; sons, Jeff (Kim) Cates of Belvidere and Brent Cates of Winchester; brother, Arthur (Betty) Ruch of Winchester; sister, Martha Starnes of Winchester; aunt, Karene Wynne; uncle and aunt, George and Betty Fraley; grandchildren, Nicholas LaFevers, Audra Caldwell, Tyler Cates, Tara Cates and Kinah Mason;  great-grandchild, Caroline Caldwell; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015 at Moore-Cortner Chapel with interment at Head of Hurricane Cemetery.  Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
