LYNCHBURG, Tenn. — The Lynchburg Swimming Pool is finally open.
The pool opened on Monday, approximately three weeks after its originally-scheduled opening date. Officials had planned a May 28th opening, but were forced to push the date back due to a filtration problem.
Lifeguards were finally back on their stands Monday, welcoming a small group of swimmers and sunbathers. Swimmers were eager for their local swimming hole to open, while lifeguards — forced to miss about three weeks of work — were happy to be back on duty. Patrons were admitted free on Monday as pool officials wait for the water become even clearer. Pool officials said the water was deemed safe to swim in now and expected the water quality to continue to improve as the repaired filtration system continues to filter properly.
The Lynchburg Pool went through extensive renovations two years ago with the help of a Brown-Forman donation. The addition of a slide and new tables, along with the upgraded privacy fence and kiddie pool were among the major improvements during the project.
The pool is typically open daily from noon until 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The pool is closed on Sundays.
Lifeguards also offer private and public swimming lessons throughout the summer and private pool parties may be scheduled as well.
