On Sunday, Bill Dance – who was born in Lynchburg but now lives in Collierville – was one of 10 named inductees for 2012.

He may have started out a small town boy but today he boasts a fishing empire that includes a weekly fishing show, a website, a signature line of products … and heck, his own iPhone app.

Dance launched his fishing career in 1970 when he won the B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year award. He repeated the honor in 1974 and 1977. Soon, he landed a lure manufacturer as a sponsor. In 1968, Bill Dance Outdoors premiered on an ABC affiliate in Memphis. The show still airs today on the Outdoor Channel and Versus.

The class will be inducted on May 19, 2012 at the TSHF located in Nashville at Bridgestone Arena.

Dance was inducted into the International Game and Fish Association Hall of Fame in 2007.
