Lynchburg hosts 21st annual Memorial Day service

Retired Col. Jim Lee, a Vietnam Veteran from Fayetteville, addressed the crowd of 150-200 who gathered at the Moore County Courthouse on Monday for Lynchburg’s 21st annual Memorial Day Service, which was sponsored by local American Legion Post 192.

After an opening by Post 192 Commander Billy H. Thomas, Phil Gatto gave the invocation and Meredith Burton sang the National Anthem.

Dorothy Jean Daniel laid a wreath at the county’s monument, while Billy Glen Bobo raised the flag and Moore County High School student Garrett Jones played taps.

Thomas, Gatto and Bobo are each Vietnam Veterans, while Daniel is the widow of Freddie Daniel, whose name in listed under Vietnam on the Moore County Courthouse monument.
