Lynchburg Garage held its grand opening on Tuesday with officials from Indian Motorcycle, Jack Daniel’s and Metro Lynchburg Moore County on hand.
The store on the corner of Majors Boulevard and Mechanic Street South is a partnership between Indian and Jack Daniel’s – officials of both companies emphasizing they are America’s first motorcycle company and America’s first registered distillery. They have worked together in the past on limited edition motorcycles with the Jack Daniel’s brand.
It’s billed as a must-stop travel destination for tourists and motorcyclists alike. The shop has a hospitality lounge, Indian Motorcycle and Jack Daniel’s branded merchandise, popular Tennessee ride routes, exclusive Lynchburg Garage gear, and it will eventually offer the opportunity to rent Indian Motorcycles.
President of Indian Motorcycles Steve Menneto said the partnership has been in the talking stages for five years. It’s the first shop combining Jack Daniel’s and Indian.
“We had to start in Lynchburg,” Menneto said.
“Five years ago Steve May and Dave Stang of Jack Daniel’s approached us and asked if we had any interest in coming to the square. We said absolutely, whenever you’re ready.
“Eighteen months ago, we got the word that it looks like a go. It’s a great combination of two brands known for their craftsmanship and working with the Sloan family is great.”
Sloan Motorcycles of Murfreesboro, which has been in business for 60 years, is managing the daily operations.
Said Curtis Sloan, the president of the company, “We’ll stock it and maintain the brand standards of these two great companies.”
There will not be any sales of motorcycles at the shop, only rentals, and lots of merchandise is available in the gift shop.
Sloan said rentals start at $99 for a same-day rental, $129 for a 24-hour rental on up to $169. It is less expensive for a multi-day rental, Sloan said.
Sloan also rents in Murfreesboro. He said he has been surprised at the number of international tourists who rent motorcycles, and it is expected to be very successful in Lynchburg with those who visit Jack Daniel’s.
“We’re truly honored they invited us to be the operating partner.”
