A 66-year-old Lincoln County man lost his life in a farm accident Tuesday. According to authorities, Wade Mitchell of McBurg was killed while assisting a cow giving birth. “Basically it was just a very unusual accident,” said Sheriff Murray Blackwelder. “He was pulling a calf, and the cow fell on him.” Mr. Mitchell was a native of Lincoln County, the son of Helen Mitchell, who survives, and the late Edward Mitchell. He was a member of Beech Grove United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school there. He was very active in many community events and projects and was employed by North Alabama Bank of Hazel Green. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his children, David Mitchell and Lea Anne (Chris) Grissom; his grandchildren, Callea, Lillie, Anzlee Gris-som, McKenzie, Emily, Freddie Mitchell and Nancy (Alberto) Perez; one greatgrandchild; two sisters, Edwena (Harry) Cunningham and Nancy (Billy) McFadden; many nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Jane Damron. Funeral service was held Saturday at Higgins Funeral Home with the Rev. Allan Shedd officiating. Burial was Wright’s Cemetery.
